An Announcement.
To be fair, more than just one announcement unless you stop reading after the first sentence.
This week I am joining The New England Lacrosse Journal as their head writer. I will be writing exclusively for them for the foreseeable future. I am incredibly grateful to Eric Seamans and everyone Seamans Media for this opportunity. It has long been my dream to make a living writing about the great sport of lacrosse. I achieved that dream for a time with Inside Lacrosse, and now I will achieve it again, this time with a honed geographical focus. I started as a Shire kid - part of me with always be a Shire kid - but I am a full-grown New Englander now and always.
I love this region. I loved everything about growing up here learning how to play, coach, and write about lacrosse. I love the small schools and the big schools. I love the DIII Life. I love coaching kids again. This is my home.
What does this mean for you?
Well, in order to get access to my content you will have to get a subscription to New England Lacrosse Journal. I know, you’re probably all subscription-ed out. I get it. I will make it worth your while because I believe in myself and [hopefully] so do you, otherwise, you wouldn’t be here. It’s 100 dollars a year, or $9.99 a month, to read my coverage of…everything in the region (with some national analysis) almost every day. It’s less than $8.34 a month to subscribe. Why watch Netflix when you can Laxjournal and chill with me?
(The tagline needs work…)
What happens to the newsletter?
The short answer is that I don’t know. The long-term answer is that LacroCity will be where I put things that don’t fit into the Laxjournal mold. Whether that’s Pro, indoor, or national coverage. I’m going to try a lot in my first months at NELJ. Not all of it will work; the stuff that doesn't make it will live here, with us. I’ll complete #ProjectPinnacle here. I’ll still write my [throwback] pro features and current musings. I’m still working on a book with chapters that I’ll (eventually) debut here. I still have all my friends in the industry and hope to speak, and possibly work, with all of them wherever and whenever I can in the future.
Why am I doing this?
It’s time for a change. Time for a fresh start. Time to stop being frustrated.
My relationships with other entities that I have worked for are intact. No one is mad, no one is promising revenge or anything like that. If #LaxTwitter wants to get up in arms about it, they are free to do so, but there is no spicy narrative here. The people that matter are excited and support me doing this. The ones that don’t, well - you know where you can find me on these internet streets.
I’m a professional lacrosse writer in every sense and spirit of that title. Thank you for being there to support me to this point. You’ve all done so much just by subscribing. I feel guilty asking you to do one more thing.
…But I’m going to do it anyway. Sign up for a New England Lacrosse Journal Subscription here.
If you have any comments, questions, or concerns please feel free to email me directly at kyle.devitte@laxjournal.com.
